Mr. Komatina holds a Ph.D. degree in Civil Engineering (with focus on environmental river engineering) and has over 28 years of national and international work experience in integrated water resources management and sustainable development of river basins – in science, education, engineering, and management. During his 18 years long university career, he has worked as a teacher and scientist at a number of universities (Belgrade, Delft, Hamburg, Banja Luka), as well as a manager (vice-dean of educational affairs at the University of Belgrade) and professional engineer. Subsequently, he has worked for more than 11 years as the first, and only, chief executive officer of the International Sava River Basin Commission since its establishment. Working at this position, he has gained experience in planning, coordination, direction and management of work of the international organization, including setting up of the organization, coordination of preparation and implementation of strategies, policies, work plans, work programmes and projects, fund-raising, education activities, capacity building, public participation and stakeholder involvement, networking and partnership building, etc. Diversity of his professional career has helped him develop a variety of skills, as well as the ability to work in multidisciplinary teams, the practically oriented thinking, and the pragmatic approach to problem solving. He is married and has three children.
